It still amazes me that most professionals in the staffing industry still don’t have their own website set up to conduct business. They think that because, perhaps, that they work somewhere else that the corporate website accomplishes their goals. They are dead wrong. If you are reading this and haven’t set up your own site, then do it now!!!!  The benefits of having your own site are endless.

For starters, you should set up your own “opt-in” page that allows your potential candidates and clients to sign up for your own value add newsletter (in that example, have 2 pages- one for clients and one for candidates).  The page should have your personal branding- Your Bio, your picture, your value.  You can have the website list the most valuable links and resources for your audience(s).  For those that have decided to get with the times, the most successful create a job hunting or candidate recruiting blog.   You can have links to job postings from other sites. You can post helpful videos and articles written even by others. The ideas are limitless, but you simply need to have a mechanism that drives traffic to YOU!

If you want to start inexpensively, then you can get free blogs everywhere. This blog is hosted for free on WordPress, but you can use Blogger or any of the other great free sites. You can brand it with a picture or logo and can create helpful links on the page.  In my case, I paid a very small fee to have to blog as part of my larger web site. Thus, you type blog.thedynamicsale.com and don’t have to go through WordPress.  There are huge benefits, though, to creating your own site. If you check out mine, http://www.TheDynamicSale.com , you will want to note that I built it myself, with very little time invested. I didn’t have to pay anyone a cent and the hosting for this is absurdly cheap (you can do it for $20/month).  I use a webbuilder called WebsiteTonight that is offered by Godaddy. Go to http://www.godaddy.com and see the options.  You can set up links to your corporate home page and more.

If you are the owner of a firm and own your own website, then try to take some ownership back in terms of what you can personally program.  You can still set up a free godaddy (or other) website, as I did and simply have your website developer point the other website (ie your main domain) to this new website. You can then control this subdomain, which can have great links and pages from your main site.  I can write for hours about this, but the best thing to do is to carve out some time and just sign up for your new domain and try an easy product like website tonight.
